Leaving behind my beloved Tide Pods and Downy dryer sheets was very very hard for me. I loved the smell, I trusted the stain fighting and softening capabilities. What I could not shake though was the thought of all of those chemicals and fragrances heating up both in the wash and dry and then transferring (essentially melting) to our clothes, bedding and towels. Then walking around all day in them and sleeping in them at night. I knew I had to make a change, Enter Young Livings Thieves laundry detergent and wool dryer balls infused with essential oils.
My first thought after I checked out the detergent for the first time was, wow, thats a tiny bottle. Also, thats $$$ for such a small bottle. I'm gonna run through that bottle in like a week? How wrong was I???
I thought I would save you all a little time and energy comparing the two detergents:
Tide Detergent: A 72 count of Tide Pods is $17.99 which breaks down to 24 cents per load. Yes that's cheap but they contain a cocktail of potent cancer-causing chemicals, some of which the manufacturer doesn’t even have to list on the label. This loophole reduces the odds that you’ll ever discover what’s in there.
Thieves Laundry Detergent: a super concentrated bottle costs $29.50 and will get you 64 loads (46 cents a load). *What I didn't know when I got my first bottle was that you can actually take that one bottle and turn it into two which breaks it down to 23 cents per load - CHEAPER THAN TIDE PODS PEOPLE!!! I've even seen it made into a ginormous batch (5 gallons/640 loads) from just one bottle, but I have yet to tackle making that!). Thieves Laundry Soap is made up of plant-based ingredients and leaves no chemical or synthetic residue. Natural enzymes and powerful essential oils leave your clothes fresh and clean with a light citrus scent. PLUS our Thieves dish soap is an amazing pre-treater for tough to get out stains!!
But really it's comparing apples to oranges ---- or lemons to sulfates?!?
* How to double your Thieves Detergent*
Pour half of the bottle into another empty bottle (or a mason jar)
Add 3 capfuls of Thieves Household Cleaner (a sample comes in the premium starter kit or you can buy a bottle and use (also diluted) to clean every surface of your home
Fill the bottle with filtered water and shake well until it's all incorporated
Use as directed on the bottle (1/4 capful per load get the job done!)
